Why do you offer the 3 day treatment &
healing programme?
Quite simply because we believe strongly in the
benefits of our services
Many people do not realise the benefits of osteopathic treatment. They spend years in
pain, living on pain killers and anti-inflammatory pills. These simply mask the problem,
they do nothing to fix it.
Osteopathic care can help! Osteopathy can help with pain, stiffness and reduced
range of motion. But we dig deeper. We not only work to alleviate the symptoms, but
we examine the underlying causes of those symptoms and work to correct those.
One of the most damaging challenges to the human body is poor posture. Years of
misaligned joints weakens muscle, stiffens ligaments, impedes nerve function and can
lead to organ degeneration. The Healthy Back programme moves through pain relief
into corrective treatment, designing a focused programme to help improve your
posture and strengthen your spine.
You will feel better, healthier and stronger. We offer the three day process to introduce
you to this concept and help you to understand these benefits.
Is Healthy Back a clinic?
Healthy Back is a treatment programme within the Nower Hill Osteopathic Clinic. While
the Nower Hill Osteopathic Clinic deals with a great number of patients suffering from
a broad set of symptoms, the Healthy Back programme focuses on posture and spinal
health specifically.
It was designed based on years of experience combined with the latest research into
both how to alleviate symptoms as well as how to correct underlying structural
problems, how to improve posture and improve the overall health of the spine in order
to gain freedom from recurring pain and stiffness.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments you need depends on the condition and person we are
treating. During your first appointment, we will perform a detailed case history and
examination including comprehensive orthopaedic and nuerological assessment as
well as postural analysis.
During your second and third treatments, we will go through your results with you and
discuss your goals and what you would like to achieve with us. We will give you an
estimate on the number of treatments needed to achieve those goals. You will also
periodically be re-examined to assess your progress and discuss the next phase of
your treatment.
How long do appointments last?
Your first three appointments will last approximately one hour. This is in order to
complete the detailed examination and case history, discuss with you our examination
results and complete the treatemnt sessions.
Follow up appointments will last approximately 20 to 25 minutes. Periodically
throughout your treatment pogramme, you will be booked in for a re-examination. This
will last approximately 40 minutes and include treatment.
What should I expect?
You will be greeted with a warm and friendly smile.
•
There are a number of forms to fill in, please bring your glasses if you need
them.
•
Bring your diary for us to schedule in your follow up appointment.
•
The entire appointment can take up to one hour.
Case History
We will start the consultation with a detailed medical history. This will be followed up by
a comprehensive orthopaedic and neurological examination. You will need to undress
down to your underwear, but a gown will be provided.
A computerised posutural analysis
will be performed. Photos will be taken from the front and side and a computer will
then analyse the imbalances in your structure. We can calculate anterior head
carriage, hip and shoulder imbalances and the forces going through those joints
Treatment
If the evidence indicates that you would benefit from Osteopathy, we will give you your
first treatment and book you in for a follow up appointment. During your second
appointment, prior to treatment, we will go over our report findings in detail and
discuss with you how you can get as well as you can as quickly as possible.
What should I wear?
As with any medical examination, you will be asked to undress to your underwear. A
gown will be provided. For the postural photos, in order for the computer analysis to be
performed, we need to be able to see the collar bones, mid section and top of the hips.
This is so the computer can calculate alignment, weight balance, and spinal position.
For this part of the examination, you may wear a sports bra and shorts if you feel the
need.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes - if you wish, you can have someone present throughout your consultation and
treatment. If you are under 16 years of age, by law, you can only be treated if
accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Does it hurt?
Some soft tissue treatment may cause discomfort during treatment. Your therapist will
tell you what to expect, and will want you to let them know if you are in pain. You may
feel a little stiff or sore after treatment. This is a normal, healthy response to the
treatment.
Is treatment safe?
Yes, all the research confirms that manual and manipulative therapy is a safe and
effective form of care when provided by trained practitioners. The approach to care we
take is recommended in the relevant European guidelines and the Department of
Health's Musculoskeletal Services Framework. Patients may experience some side
effects such as feeling more uncomfortable, stiff or tired for a day or so - these effects
are normally minor and are a normal, healthy response to healing.
It is important that you talk to us if you have any questions during any part of your
care.
What do you treat?
While many of our patients are being treated for posture improvement and back pain,
treatment is suitable for almost anyone and can help alleviate an enormous range of
conditions:
Arthritis
Back ache
Headaches and migraines
Mobility problems
Muscle and joints - pain and injury
Repetitive strain injury
Respiratory problems
Sciatica & Lumbago
Shoulder and knee pain
Sports injuries
Work related strains
Whiplash
Do you treat Children?
Yes. We are trained and qualified to treat children of all ages from new borns right up
to young adulthood. We can assess new borns for any restrictions or strains from the
birth process, as well as the usual childhood sprains, strains and difficulties.
Any under 16’s must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian or treatment
cannot be performed.
Should I see my doctor first?
You do not need to see your doctor first if you are paying for your own treatment. If you
are claiming through insurance, your provider may require you to see a GP first in
order to get a referral. Always contact your insurance provider for details on their own
procedures before coming to see us.
In certain instances, your therapist may feel that it is important to inform your doctor
that you are receiving treatment. In such cases, he will discuss the matter with you
fully and will not contact your doctor without your consent.
Will insurance cover my costs?
Most private insurance companies cover Osteopathic treatment. You should check in
advance with your provider before seeking treatment. This is in order to confirm the
level of coverage they provide and whether you need a referral from a GP. While we
deal with a great number of insurance companies, we currently to not work with BUPA
or AXA/PPP.
Please note that we will ask you to settle your treatment fee at the time of each visit,
whether or not you intend to claim from your provider. We will provide you with receipts
upon request and if necessary, complete any forms they may need.
In general, while private insurance schemes will cover Pain Relief care (symptom
relief), they will not cover Corrective Care. You must understand that insurance
companies are a business and interested in profits and shareholder stocks, not your
full health. If you want what is best for you, don’t depend on your insurance company’s
limited vision!
Do you treat whiplash?
Whiplash is a potentially life threatening condition. If you have been in an accident
involving a motor vehicle or any strong forces, go to hospital immediately for
examination. Very often just after an accident, you may feel no pain whatsoever. This
can mask serious underlying damage and needs to be investigated in detail including
the possibility of x-rays.
However, if you have already been examined and nothing threatening was uncovered,
we can provide very effective treatment to help reduce the pain, stiffness and postural
changes that often accompany whiplash.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes, we accept all major credit cards. Cash or cheque is also acceptable.
